This couple of weeks I’ve been reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. This book dives a reader into a fascinating genre of science fiction. With such vivid explanations you will be able to picture the world where Jonas lives. Which in my opinion is kind of lame because Jonas’s world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war, fear, pain or choices. Even the weather is controlled! When the children turn twelve they are assigned a working job for the rest of their lives by the Elders, or in other words the people in charge of the community. When Jonas turned twelve he was assigned to be the Receiver of Memories. Which means that he received memories of the true pain and pleasure of life, or in other words he received the memories of our world. This unlocked hidden doors for Jonas and made a vast impact on him. I would totally recommend this book to a friend because one of the most important themes in The Giver is the importance of memories to human life. The author was inspired to write this book after a visit to her aging father, who had longstanding most of his long-term memories. So, if you ever have time to read a book, The Giver would be a great way to start.
