The movie and the novel have so many differences and similarities.
The movie and the novel have many similarities between them. For example, they both described Dally as tough, cold and mean. Also, they both said that he doesn't like kids as much. Another similarity between the novel and the story is the phrase “Things are rough all over” which continuously appears throughout both versions of the story. And lastly, Johnny accidentally killing a Soc appeared also in both versions which was a big similarity.
The movie and the novel also had their differences between them. For example, in the novel the story started when Pony walked out of the movie theatre and the movie started when Pony, Johnny and Dally all went to the movie theater. Another difference between the novel and the movie is that in the novel when Two-Bit and Pony were visiting Johnny in the hospital; Johnny’s mom was complaining to the nurses about why they didn't let her see her son. On the other side, in the movie it didn't even physically show Johnny’s mom. And lastly, in the novel Johnny was shy and didn't talk much but in the movie Johnny talked almost in every scene and was pretty active most of the time.
I was a little disappointed with the actors in the movie because in the novel the author explained with much vivid detail which made a reader sink deeper into the book. In the movie it was just a quick summary of what the whole story was about. In my opinion the scenes went by really fast and before I knew Johnny had a killed a Socs. In the movie what I looked forward on seeing was for my imaginary characters to come to life. When I first visualized Pony I saw him with ripped jeans and a blue jean jacket and I think the director did I great putting that together in real life.
